OXFORD, Ohio - The Vikings set six new team top times in the third and final day of the Miami Invitational and CSU ended up sixth in the team standings on Saturday (Dec. 2) night at Miami University. The tournament was the Vikings' final event of the calendar year and their only outing in the month of December.

Senior Bjorn Schantz continued his dominance this season in the 500 free by posting a 4:30.42, beating his previous best time of 4:32.58. The effort is best in the Horizon League this season, and Schantz is still in the top three in the league in the 200, 500 and 1,000 free.

"As usual, Bjorn was solid," head coach Wally Morton said. "We had a lot of good swims here, but really this tournament is a rehearsal for the league championship. We're working on improving our times to get ready for the second half of the season."

On the tournament's opening day on Thursday (Nov. 30), Schantz placed fourth in the mile swim (15:53.98) and also swam the anchor leg of the second place 800 free relay team (6:47.44).

The 200 medley (1:33.00) and 400 free relay (3:07.30) teams set a new team standards while placing third and sixth, respectively.

Sophomores Stef Potgieter and Marko Milenkovic also set new top times in the 200 breast and 100 free, respectively, and each now holds the top spots in those events. Potgieter's time of 2:03.84 in the 200 breast was good for third place and Milenkovic notched a time of :46:01, good for fourth place and the top spot on the league leaderboard.

Sophomore Nedim Nisic set a new top time and led four solid CSU performances in the 100 fly with a mark of :49.64. Junior Johan Norling posted a personal-best :50.92 in the 100 fly, while freshmen Stephen Grove (:51.67) and Todd Winchell (:51.69) also recorded their best 100 fly times.

The Vikings (903.5 points) were fourth among the tournament's nine teams heading into the final day, but slipped to sixth behind Emory (1,183) and Miami (1,048). Denison (1,779.5) won the team competition.

The Vikings are idle until Jan. 6 when they head to the Florida Gulf Coast Holiday Tournament in Fort Myers, Fla. CSU then hosts a quad meet with Xavier, Duquesne and Notre Dame on Jan. 13 at Busbey Natatorium.
