Viking Men Sweep Duquesne and Xavier

CLEVELAND - Daniel Thomasson and Lyle Wilkens each picked up a pair of wins as the Cleveland State men's swimming and diving team swept Xavier and Duquesne in dual meet action on Saturday afternoon at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium. The women's team got a pair of wins from Samantha Jones, but still lost to the Dukes and Musketeers.

Thomasson won the 1000 freestyle in 9:54.39 and the 500 freestyle in 4:48.32, while Wilkens won the 50 freestyle in 21.43 and the 100 freestyle in 47.17 to lead the Vikings. Warren Vickers chipped in with a win in the 200 individual medley in 1:54.83, while Pieter Pelser won the 200 backstroke in 1:52.98. The men picked up a 112-90 win over Xavier and a 125-79 win over Duquesene.

For the women's team, Jones won the 200 individual medley in 2:12.32 and the 200 backstroke in 2:10.18, but the Vikings still fell to Xavier, 132-73, and to Duquesne, 144-61.

The women's team will return to action on Wed., Jan. 21, when they host Youngstown State at the Busbey Natatorium. That meet begins at 5 p.m. The men will next hit the pool on Sat., Jan. 24, when Niagara visits the Busbey Natatorium at 1 p.m.
