Four Vikings Named to Fall Academic All-Horizon League Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Volleyball standouts Liz Fazio and Mel Snyder and soccer stalwarts Mike Barton and Tom Sadd have been named to the 2007 Fall Academic All-Horizon League Team for their respective sports as announced by the league office.

Fazio, Snyder and Sadd are making their second straight appearances on the team, while Barton's selection is his first.

Fazio, a native of Akron who sports a 3.91 grade point average as a biology major, helped the Vikings to their first-ever Horizon League Championship and berth in the NCAA Championship by averaging 2.74 kills and 0.89 digs per game. She earned a berth on the Kentucky Invitational all-tournament team and was also the Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 5.

Snyder concluded her brilliant career with a league championship and a berth in the NCAA Championship after coming close in each of her previous three seasons. She dished out a CSU single-season school-record 1,469 assists and added 103 kills, 27 aces, 260 digs and 52 blocks this season. The Amherst, Ohio native finished her career ranked third in all-time assists and fourth in service aces at CSU. She maintains a 3.81 grade point average as a middle childhood education major.

Barton carries a 3.71 grade point average as a business economics major. The Twinsburg, Ohio native was a second team All-Horizon League selection after anchoring the Viking defense this season. He also tallied his lone point of the season with an assist at Milwaukee on Oct. 14.

Sadd, a Christchurch, New Zealand native, carries a 3.78 grade point average in international business. The senior defender appeared in 14 matches this fall and made seven starts. He scored his lone goal of the season in a 2-1 loss to Butler on Oct. 19.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with Academic All-League teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), and have completed at least one year at the member institution having earned 24 semester hour or 36 quarter hour credits.
