INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Cleveland State freshman goalie Anthony DeMarco has been named to the 2005 All-Horizon League Men's Soccer second team. The team was determined in balloting conducted among the league's head coaches.

DeMarco, a freshman from Dearborn Heights, Mich., earned the honor after leading the league in both saves (103) and saves per game (6.44), ranking fifth in the nation in both categories. He has started 15 of the 16 matches that he has played in.

DeMarco's save total is the ninth-highest single season total in CSU history.

"Anthony's selection reflects on the consensus among the Horizon League coaches that he has performed admirably under trying circumstances," head coach Pete Curtis said. "If he continues to grow and develop at the pace that he showed this year, than his potential is unlimited for the next three years.

"The award is also a testament to the level of coaching that he has received from (assistant coach) Andy Carl. For CSU to have the first team all-league goalie last year (Amir Kettani) and a freshman goalie on the second team this year speaks well to the guidance that Andy gives our keepers."

The Vikings open play in the Horizon League Championship on Saturday (Nov. 5) as the No. 8 seed, facing regular season champion Detroit beginning at 1:00 p.m.
