FREE KICKS:

  • The Cleveland State men's soccer team (5-9-0, HL 1-2-0) will return home and back to Horizon League action against Detroit (3-7-4, HL 0-4-0) on Wednesday (Oct. 23) at 7:30 p.m.  On Sunday (Oct. 27) the Vikings will travel to Columbus to face Ohio State with kickoff beginning at noon. 

WEEK EIGHT RECAP:

  • The Vikings defeated Bowling Green in an exciting double overtime win, 1-0, on Wednesday night (Oct. 16).
  • Sergio Manesio scored the game winning goal for CSU, giving him a team -high four goals.  Senior Admir Suljevic set up Manesio adding his third assist of the season.

MANESIO SHINES:

  • Manesio leads the team in goals with four.  Manesio has tallied nine points, has attempted 23 shots with 10 being on goal.
  • He scored a pair of goals against Green Bay (Oct. 12).
  • Manesio's four goals ranks eighth best in the Horizon League.
  • Manesio earned Horizon League Player of the Week honors, awarded from College Sports Madness (Oct. 15).

SULJEVIC RETURNS:

  • Senior forward Admir Suljevic returned to the field against Green Bay last Saturday, after missing five games with an injury.
  • Suljevic added his third assist, setting up Manesio's game winner against Bowling Green.
  • In the match, Suljevic had two assists for the Vikings, including the helper on the game winner.  

GOALKEEPERS:

  • CSU has used all three goalkeepers on the roster through 14 games.
  • Freshman Nick Ciraldo has started seven games this season saving 17 shots.  Ciraldo picked up his second win against Green Bay on Saturday (Oct. 12).
  • Sophomore Austin Saini has tallied 13 saves on the year boosting his record to a perfect 3-0.  Junior Joe Kalt has played in four matches saving eight shots.

HORIZON LEAGUE STAT RANKINGS:

  • The Vikings are ranked sixth in goals with 14.
  • Goalkeeper Nick Ciraldo ranks ninth in saves with 17.

ADDING SHUTOUTS:

  • The 3-0 victory against Green Bay (Oct. 12) was the first shutout of the season for the Vikings, and CSU added their second shutout against Bowling Green (Oct. 16), 1-0 in double overtime.
  • Last season, CSU posted nine total shutouts against their opponents. 

ALL-TIME VS. DETROIT/OHIO STATE:

  • Cleveland State has played Detroit and Ohio State 24 times in the program's history.  Detroit last year defeated CSU 3-1.
  • CSU and OSU last met in 2010 with Ohio State defeating the Vikings 3-1.

UP NEXT:

  • The Vikings will play a pair of conference opponents, where the team will hit the road to Wright State on Wednesday (Oct. 30) at 7:00 p.m. and will return back to Krenzler Field for their final regular season home game of the year against Valparaiso on Saturday (Nov. 2) at 7:30 p.m.
