Vikings Fall at No. 7 Louisville, 2-0

Louisville, KY-  The Cleveland State men's soccer team fell to the No.7 ranked Louisville Cardinals 2-0 on Wednesday night at Cardinal Park.

The Vikings fell to 1-2, while the Cardinals improved to 2-0.

In the first half, both the Vikings and the Cardinals played tough defense keeping the match scoreless.  CSU's defense only allowed four shots and one shot on goal, which was by Louisville freshman midfielder Andrew Brody.  Cleveland State's goalkeeper Joe Kalt made the save to keep the match at zero.

In the second half, Louisville put up the first point when redshirt junior defender Daniel Keller put in a header from seven yards out at the 57:25 minute-mark.  Romilio Hernandez set up Keller with the assist when he set up for a free kick and Hernandez kicked a cross pass to find Keller.

The Cardinals scored again five minutes later when sophomore defender Jerry Ramirez scored on a 16 yard shot into the back right corner of the net on the left side of the field to put his team up 2-0 over Cleveland State.  The assist was credited by Ricardo Velazco.

Louisville's stingy defense did not give CSU a chance to even get a shot off or a shot on goal the entire match.  The Vikings were outshot 11-0 in the contest.

Cleveland State will return home to play their home opener against Marshall on Sun. (Sept. 8) 1 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
