FREE KICKS:

  • The Cleveland State men's soccer team (1-1-0) will continue the regular season when the Vikings will travel to play Louisiville on Wednesday (Sept. 4) at 7 p.m. and will return home for the season opener at Krenzler Field on Sunday (Sept. 8) at 1 p.m.
  • CSU concluded a strong 2012 campaign with an 11-6-3 overall record, Horizon League tournament championship, and the program's first berth to the NCAA tournament since 1980. 
  • CSU won the Horizon League Tournament title last year, earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Vikings lost at Michigan State in the first round, 2-1.

WEEK ONE RECAPS:

  • The Vikings opened the 2013  regular season out west against Oregon State and Portland. CSU dropped the first game 3-0 to OSU on Friday and won in double overtime against Portland on Sunday 3-2.
  • Senior Jordan Hart scored the game winning goal to give the Vikings first win of the season.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Austin Saini had seven saves against Portland giving him his first win on the year. 

SUPER SOPHS:

  • Danilo Radjen and Alfonso Sandoval were part of the Horizon League All-Newcomer team last season. 
  • Radjen was one of seven Vikings to play in all 20 games and tied for second on the team with 18 starts. 
  • Sandoval saw time in 18 games as a freshman, making eight starts. Sandoval was tied for second on the team with three assists to  along with two goals.

SENIOR STAR:

  • Senior Horizon League First Team All-League selection Aslinn Rodas returns at midfield, coming off an excellent season.  
  • Rodas started 17 contests where he was tied for seventh on the team with seven points, two goals, and three assists.
  • As a sophomore, Rodas earned Second Team All-Horizon League selection.

ZACH ATTACK:

  • Senior defender Zach Ellis- Hayden was named to the All-Horizon League second team last year.
  • Ellis-Hayden was tied for second on the team with four goals and third on the team in points (10).
  • Ellis-Hayden was named to the 2012 NSCAA Division I Men's All-Great Lakes Region Third Team. 

ADMIR STRONG:

  • Senior first team All-Horizon League Admir Suljevic will continue to lead the Vikings offense at forward.
  • Suljevic led the Vikings in goals (5), assists (4), and points (14) last season.  Suljevic finished fifth in the Horizon League in points and tied for fifth in the league in goals.
  • He was selected to the 2012 NSCAA Division I Men's All-Great Lakes Region Second Team.

SECOND HALF ADJUSTMENTS:

  • Cleveland State outscored opponents 18-5 in the second half of games last season despite opponents outscoring Cleveland State 12-7.
  • The Vikings played seven overtime matches last season, winning four and playing to three ties.

COACH KAZ:

  • Head Coach Ali Kazemaini has built the program in a short period with high expectations.
  • His team earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament last year for the first time since 1980.
  • In his 21 years as head coach, Kazemaini has compiled a record of 230-139-21, including 54 victories at Cleveland State.
  • Has a 26-8-1 record at Krenzler Field over the past five seasons.

  • The Vikings will travel to Belmont on Friday (Sept. 13) at 7 p.m. and then will travel to Lipscomb on Sunday (Sept. 15) at 1 p.m.
