RAVENNA, Ohio - Cleveland State junior Jake Scott appears to be ready for the Horizon League Championship.

Playing in his final tune-up before the league championship on Monday and Tuesday, Scott carded rounds of 69-65 to win the Kent State First Energy Intercollegiate on Saturday at the par-70, 6,936-yard Windmill Lakes Golf Course.

"Jake was outstanding today," assistant coach Nathan Miklos said. "He had everything going and played two solid rounds. This was a great way for us to get ready for the league championship."

Scott's 65 in the final round was a career-low and the second lowest round in school-history, trailing Steve Weir's 63 at the Belmont Intercollegiate on April 3, 2006. Weir is in his first year as CSU's head coach.

It is the second time in his career that Scott has won a tournament, as he also claimed the Butler Spring Invitational last season. He is the second CSU golfer to win an event this spring after Doug Barber won the Wright State Invitational two weeks ago.

Scott's finish helped CSU to a fourth place finish out of 12 teams. Unlike other events where the lowest four scores are counted, the Kent State Invitational counted the lowest five scores out of six team golfers.

The Vikings shot rounds of 364-367 (731) to finish three shots behind Miami (Ohio). Kent State won the event with 712, while Toldeo shot 724 to finish as runner-up.

CSU returns to action on Monday (April 28) and Tuesday (April 29) when the Vikings compete at the Horizon League Championship in Lebanon, Ohio.
