LEBANON, Ohio - Cleveland State is 18 holes away from earning its second bid to the NCAA Regionals in the last three years after posting a 17-over-par (593) through the first two rounds of the Horizon League Championship.

The 54-hole championship is being played at the par 72, 6,926-yard Shaker Run Golf Club.

The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday with the Vikings slated to tee off between 9:10 a.m. and 9:50 a.m. with Detroit and Youngstown State.

The Vikings opened with a 294 to grab a one-stroke lead over Detroit after the opening round and came back to shoot 299 as a team in the afternoon as conditions worsened.

CSU holds a three shot lead over second place Detroit (596), while Youngstown State is six strokes back at 599 after the opening 36 holes.

"We really had a great day today and were able to pick up nine strokes over the last five holes," head coach Steve Weir said. "The weather got really bad our last four or five holes with the wind picking up. It even started to rain sideways.

"But the guys really stayed focus and played the last few holes well. I was extremely proud of how they maintained their mental toughness coming in. We are going to have some dinner, get back to the hotel, dry off, warm up and have a team meeting. If we can manage the course like we did today and maintain our concentration and focus, we will be right in the hunt at the end of the day tomorrow."

Jake Scott and Kent Monas are two of only four players in the 35-man field that finished under-par. Scott carded rounds of 73-70, while Monas opened with a 69 to take the lead after the first round. He came back with a 74 in the afternoon and is tied for third place with Scott, two shots behind leader Adam Austreng of Green Bay who fired rounds of 71-70 (141).

Butler's Kyle Thomas is alone in second place at 142 after shooting a pair of 71's.
