PLYMOUTH, Mich. - The Cleveland State men's golf team is tied for third place after the opening two rounds of action at the Detroit Titan Invitational on Friday. The 54-hole event is being contested at the par-72, 6,783-yard, Golden Fox Golf Course.

CSU fired rounds of 303-299 for a 36-hole total of 602 and is tied for third place with Dayton (299-303) and Youngstown State (305-297).

"We didn't play our best today and need to come back with a strong round tomorrow," head coach Steve Weir said. "Doug (Barber) continued to build off his performance at Wright State with two good rounds to put himself in contention at another tournament."

Barber, who won the Wright State Invitational two weeks ago, carded rounds of 72-73 (145) and is tied for second place, six shots behind Detroit's Mark Sommerfeld who shot rounds of 69-70 (139) on Friday.

Sommerfeld's Titan squad leads the tournament after shooting rounds of 294-288 (582). Detroit holds a 15-shot lead over second place Loyola, which is at 597 (297-300).

The event is slated to conclude on Saturday with 18 holes.
