FAIRBORN, Ohio - Doug Barber fired rounds of 67 and 74 during the final two rounds of the Wright State Invitational to earn medalist honors and lead Cleveland State to a first place finish at the 54-hole event that concluded on Monday at the par-72, 7,007-yard Greene Country Club.

Barber, who shot a 73 in Monday's opening round, finished with a 54-hole total of two-under-par, 212, to win the event by four strokes over a pair of golfers, including CSU junior Jake Scott who tied for second place after rounds of 73-73-70 (216).

For Barber, it is the second time in his career that he has earned medalist honors and the first since winning the 2005 Horizon League Championship as a freshman. It marked the 14th time that a Viking golfer won an event and the first since Scott won the Butler Spring Invitational last season.

The 67 in the second round was Barber's career-low round and featured five birdies and no bogies.

"Doug was outstanding in today's morning round," head coach Steve Weir said. "He played flawless golf and once he got hot, the rest of the team started to feed off him.

"I am so proud of how the guys responded after yesterday's round. Everbody did what they had to do today and played good, solid rounds. We are going to take a couple days off and then get back at it as we continue to build toward our ultimate goal of a conference championship."

After shooting a 301 in Sunday's first round and standing in fifth place, CSU responded with rounds of four-under-par 284 in Monday's morning round and 290 in the afternoon round to win the event by seven shots over Dayton. The Vikings trailed Dayton by two shots heading into the final round.

It is CSU's first tournament victory since winning the Butler Spring Invitational last spring.

CSU will be out of action until April 18-19 when the Vikings compete at the Detroit Invitational.
