FAIRBORN, Ohio - Cleveland State shot a 301 in the opening round of the Wright State Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the par-72, 7,007-yard Greene Country Club.

There are nine teams competing in the 54-hole event.

"We were walking zombies out there and it was not the start we were hoping for," head coach Steve Weir said. "Hopefully this is a wake-up call for us. We are going to find out what we are made of tomorrow.

Despite the sub-par round, CSU is still in contention, sitting just seven shots behind first round leader Youngstown State, which shot a 294 today.

The Penguins hold a one shot lead over second place Detroit (295) and a two-stroke lead over Dayton (296), while host Wright State is one shot ahead of CSU in fourth place following a 300.

CSU is eight shots clear of sixth place Robert Morris (309).

Senior Doug Barber and junior Jake Scott tied for low round of the day for CSU as each carded a 73 to place in a tie for sixth.

Kyle Cobb added a 76, while Kent Monas (79) and Pat Elber (80) rounded out CSU's contingent.

The event will conclude on Monday (April 7) with 36 holes beginning at 9:00 a.m.
