SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Cleveland State continued to play well this spring, finishing third out of nine teams at the Notre Dame Irish Spring Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The one-day, 36-hole event was played at the par-70, 6,930-yard Warren Golf Course.

CSU shot 294 in the opening round and was in fourth place, but rallied with a 289 in the afternoon to move up one slot in the standings.

Northwestern won the event with a 36-hole total of 568, two strokes better than Notre Dame. CSU finished three shots ahead of George Washington (586), four shots ahead of Columbia (587) and were six shots better than Horizon League member Youngstown State (589).

"This was another good day for us," head coach Steve Weir said. "We didn't play our best golf in the morning, but came back with a solid round in the afternoon to move up one spot."

Junior Jake Scott and sophomore Kyle Cobb recorded identical scores of 144 to tie for 12th place. Scott carded back-to-back rounds of 72, while Cobb fired a 75 in the first round before coming back with a 69 in round two.

Northwestern's David Lipsky (68-71) and Notre Dame's Eddie Peckel's (71-68), who was playing as an individual, tied for medalist honors.

The Vikings have little time to regroup as CSU returns to action at the 54-hole Wright State Invitational beginning with 18 holes on Sunday (April 6) afternoon. CSU will conclude the tournament with 36 holes on Monday (April 7).
