AVON, Ind. - The Cleveland State men's golf team shot an opening round 297 at the Butler Spring Invitational on Monday at the par-72, 6,885-yard Prestwick Country Club.
CSU is the defending tournament champion after claiming the event last season.
"It was a terrible day with bad conditions," head coach Steve Weir said. "It was cold, rainy and windy, but I was extremely pleased with how the team hung in there and battled through."
Junior Jake Scott, last year's medalist, shot a one-under-par 71 to lead the Vikings, who had all five golfers in the 70's.
Sophomore Patrick Elber carded a 75, while sophomore Kyle Cobb and freshman Kent Monas both shot 76. Senior Doug Barber registered a 77.
The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday afternoon at Prestwick C.C.
