HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Cleveland State men's golf team opened the spring season on Monday by competing in the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Invitational at the par-72, 6,850-yard Wexford Plantation G.C.

Originally scheduled to play 36 holes today, the 17 team field was limited to just 18 holes due to rain.

CSU finished with a first round total of 328.

Senior Kyle Cobb paced the Vikings with a two-over-par 74 to open the tournament.

"Kyle had a really solid round today," head coach Steve Weir said. "He only had one bad swing that cost him a few shots, but overall, he played very well and that's a good sign for us.

"As a team, we are a little inexperienced and it showed today. It definitely wasn't the start to the season that we wanted, but this will be an experience that we can learn from and hopefully grow as a team. We'll go back to the hotel tonight and regroup and give it our best effort tomorrow."

The tournament is slated to conclude on Tuesday.
