Postgame Quotes

Dec. 30, 2010

Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Cleveland State Head Coach Gary Waters:
(Opening statement) "I look at two things when I look at the stat sheet - if we rebounded and if we defended and we did that. and we shot the basketball, which you need to do to have a good game."

(On the rebounding success) "We've been putting a lot of time in practice working on rebounding the basketball. That's been our focus. I know mentally it's making them think about going at the glass."

(On the team's defensive play) "We're a rotating defensive team. Everybody's rotating to the next man or to the ball. When they're synchronized they do the right things each and every time. One of the key factors to that defense going to where it's going is we inserted Tim Kamczyc into the lineup."

(On Norris Cole) "Norris did what he had to do for the team. We look at Norris and think he's trying to score everytime. Norris is looking at the openings and he's starting to realize that he can bring them along and also score at the same time. That's the uniqueness of a real point guard, being able to do that."

(On how he feels about the team at this point of the season) "I feel good about where we're going, but I still feel we have a long way to go. We're a little sporadic at times. I thought we took our threes, we didn't take them in flow. What I think we have to do is go back to the drawing board and constantly work on the areas we're not doing as well."

Cleveland State's Aaron Pogue:
"Going into this game we knew it was going to be tough. Loyola is a physical team. My team just pulled me to the side and told me it's a mental game. I went in there mentally prepared and got a great result."

(On if he's reached his full potential) "Every day we go to practice and prepare. I'm still working to reach my full potential. I don't think I've reached it yet, but I'll continue working toward it."

(On the team effort) "That's the thing about this team. You never know who's going to show up. We have so many scorers and people who can do other things. I think Norris stepped up with the assists today."

(On his success in one-on-one situations) "Since I've been playing the game of basketball, I've felt there's not many people who can guard me one-on-one. I feel like I can destroy anyone who's playing me one-on-one."

Cleveland State's Jeremy Montgomery:
(On the team's offense) "I think our offense is really getting better. We definitely have been focusing in on opening our offense. I just want to get my teammates involved."

Loyola Head Coach Jim Whitesell:
(Opening statement) "Points off turnovers is obviously the big stat. We didn't handle their pressure well and they kept coming after us. We just had a hard time handling the basketball."

(On keys to CSU's success) "I thought Harmon and Pogue had really great individual games against us. I thought Harmon swung by us a lot and converted. I think one of the reasons this team is 14-1 is they have a lot of offensive threats. And they take care of the ball."

(On his message to his team) "We got our fannies kicked. You gotta take it and move on. You gotta find out why you got your fannies kicked and you need to learn from it."
