Doug Neu -- Tennis 1969-72

Whether he was charging the net on the tennis court in college, or raising a family after his graduation from Cleveland State, Doug Neu has always been active and on the move.

While wielding a racquet for the Vikings from 1969-72, Neu was tabbed as CSU's Most Outstanding Player as a freshman in 1969 and served as the co-captain on both the 1970 and '71 squads. In 1971, he was a perfect 11-0 in singles while garnering his second Most Outstanding Player award. Neu capped off his Viking career by captaining the 1972 squad to a 7-5 mark.

Following his playing days at CSU, Neu married his wife Barb, who currently teaches third graders at All Saints of St. John Vianney. The two have been together now for nearly 28 years. Coincidentally, his tenure as a math teacher at Shaw High School has spanned the same amount of time. The couple has two daughters -- Kathy, who is graduating this fall from the Medical College of Ohio with a physical therapy degree, and Colleen, who will be a senior at Beaumont this fall.

In addition to his work at Shaw, Neu also taught math at Cuyahoga Community College from 1977-82 after receiving his Master's in curriculum and instruction from Akron University in 1975.

Neu's love for tennis has not dwindled over the past three decades. He taught the sport at Bratenal Place from 1972-86 and has played for the South Euclid-Lyndhurst men's team for the last 20 years. In addition, he was a member of numerous Cain Park tennis teams that won the state 4.0 leagues
