THE STARTING LINE: Cleveland State has its final tune-up before the Horizon League Championship when the Vikings compete at the 6-kilometer Falcon Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18, beginning at 10:45 a.m. at Forrest Creason Golf Course. It will be the second time that CSU will run on the course this year after the Vikings placed 13th of 18 teams at the Mel Brodt Invitational on Sept. 13.

LAST TIME OUT: The Vikings placed 29th out of 41 teams at the annual All-Ohio Championships on Friday (Oct. 10) afternoon. CSU had three runners finish with better times than last season's top finsher at the event (21:39). Colleen Conway was CSU's top finisher for the fifth straight race, finishing 103rd in 20:21. Brittany Elmlinger was 121st in 20:39, while Andria Bazilevich was 165th in 21:19.

THE HEAD COACH: Now in his fourth season at the helm of the cross country program, Joe Jaketic has continued to make steady progress in building the team. Last season, Jaketic guided the squad to a ninth place finish at the Horizon League Championships which came on the heels of an eighth place finish in 2006. It marked the first time since the 1996-97 MCC Championships that CSU finished ahead of a league foe in back-to-back seasons.

SHE DOES IT HER WAY: Junior Colleen Conway has had quite a season, finishing as CSU's top runner in each of the last five races after being the Vikings second finisher in the first event of the season. Prior to Friday's (Oct. 10) All-Ohio Championship, Conway had bettered her personal-best time in each of the previous four races, including a career-best time of 19:12 at the Ohio Invitational on Sept. 27.

IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR: Freshman Brittany Elmlinger received quite a surprise upon arriving in Delware, Ohio for the All-Ohio Championships on Friday (Oct. 10). Scheduled to travel to North Carolina to visit her sister and one-month old niece after the race, Elmlinger had to alter her plans as her sister and newborn baby made the trek north to watch her compete on Friday along with several other family members. It was the first time that Elmlinger had a chance to see her niece.

ALL-OHIO: CSU has not had to travel far for most of its races this season, as Saturday's race will be the seventh straight competition in the State of Ohio for the Vikings. However, that will all change as the final two races of the season will be in Green Bay, Wis. (Horizon League Championship) and West Lafayette, Ind. (Great Lakes Regional).

CRAINE OUT: Sophomore Allison Craine will miss the entire 2008 season due to a stress fracture in her leg. Craine was CSU's top finisher in all eight events last year, including a 19th place finish at the Horizon League Championships.

UP NEXT: The Vikings will compete at the Horizon League Championship on Saturday, Nov. 1, in Green Bay, Wis. The women's race will begin at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
