MILFORD, Mich. - Cleveland State placed 10th at the 2009 Horizon League Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Kensington Metroparks.

The Vikings totaled 227 points, finishing seven points behind ninth place Valapraiso, while Green Bay was eighth with 196 points.

Butler won the team title with 21 points, while Loyola was the runner-up with 68 points.

"I thought everyone ran extremely hard today and competed well," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "The conditions were a little rough with the wind kicking up, but everyone battled hard until the end. We were able to run together in a pack and stay close which was once again good to see."

Sophomore Allison Craine led the Vikings with a 27th place finish, recording a time of 20:37.

"Allison ran a tough race," Jaektic said. "She is just about back into form after missing last season with her injury and that is good to see."

The trio of Andria Bazilevich, Kelly Zaleski and Brittany Elmlinger were CSU's next finishers, all within 10 seconds of each other.

Bazilevich was 44th in 21:11, while Zaleski was 47th (21:19) and Elmlinger 48th in 21:21.

Jordan Hoile, who was battling some flu issues, was the Vikings fifth finisher in 22:19, placing 61st.

The Vikings will conclude the season in two weeks (Nov. 14) when CSU competes at the Great Lakes Regional Championship in Bloomington, Ind.
