Cross Country Picks Up USTFCCCA Academic Honors

COMPLETE LIST OF USTFCCCA ACADEMIC TEAMS

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Once again the Cleveland State cross country team has been honored for its academic success, as the Vikings have been named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the eighth straight season. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association made the announcement earlier this spring.

"I continue to be impressed by what this team can accomplish, both on the course and in the classroom," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "This group has really been focused on doing their best when it comes to academics, and you can definitely see the results with honors like this. Hopefully we can continue the strong academic success for many years to come."

During the 2015 season, the Vikings posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.5 and were one of four Horizon League teams to earn All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCCA. The Vikings, who earned academic honors for the eighth time under head coach Joe Jaketic, also had seven runners recognized at Cleveland State's Athletic Academic Luncheon earlier this month for posting a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.

One of those runners to be acknowledged as an Athletic Academic honoree was Ashlyn Woods, who was named the College of Sciences and Health Professions Outstanding Senior at fall commencement. Woods posted a cumulative GPA of 3.85 and graduated Summa Cum Laude after just five semesters at Cleveland State.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA Regional Championship.
