Cross Country Set For NCAA Great Lakes Regional

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team will close out the 2015 season this weekend, competing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday, November 13. Friday's 6K race is slated for a 1:00 p.m. EST start and will take place at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wis.

OFF THE COURSE SUCCESS
Earlier this month junior Ashlyn Woods and student assistant coach Katie Webb were nominated to be valedictorians of their respective colleges for the upcoming December graduation. Woods, who will be graduating early, was nominated for the College of Science and Health Professions, while Webb, who was a Viking standout from 2011-14, was nominated for the College of Health and Human Performance. Under head coach Joe Jaketic the Vikings have had two valedictorians – Brittany Elmlinger (Fall 2012) and Kelly Zaleski (Spring 2013).

TOP 6K TIMES
Entering the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, the Vikings have recorded seven top-50 6K times this season, including four in the top-10. Junior Ashlyn Woods has recorded three of these top times (2nd – 22:25, 3rd – 22:38 & 14th – 23:21), with sophomore Samantha Butterbaugh also adding three (7th – 23:09, 9th – 23:13 & 11th – 23:16), and freshman Marissa Sell notching one (34th – 24:08).

BUTTERBAUGH & MARSHALL NOTCH CAREER-BEST TIMES LAST TIME OUT
Samantha Butterbaugh and Emily Marshall recorded career-best 6K times at the Horizon League Championship last time out, Butterbaugh with a 24th place finish and Marshall with an 82nd place finish. Butterbaugh posted a time of 23:09 – bettering her previous career-best by four seconds that she set at the All-Ohio Championship earlier this season. Marshall bettered her previous career-best by more than 30 seconds, notching a time of 25:31 at the league championship.
