ORLANDO, Fla. – The Cleveland State cross country team made the most of its trip down south Saturday morning, finishing 12th out of 34 collegiate teams at the Disney Cross Country Classic.

"Everyone ran a great race today, we were able to get the race finished before it got too hot down here, which was a good thing for us. The course was in great condition and there was so much energy surrounding the race, making it a great environment to run in," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "We were able to post some great times at this race today, and I'm so proud of everyone's performances. Everyone always enjoys making this trip, and this year they definitely made the most of it, posting some great times and showing their continued improvement."
For the fourth straight race, the Vikings were paced by Ashlyn Woods who finished 22nd out of 304 total runners. Woods crossed the finish line in 18:57, marking her third sub 19-minute 5K this season and the fifth of her career. Her 5K time is tied for fifth on the CSU top performances list - her fourth mark in the top-five.
The Vikings had two additional runners place in the top-100, as Samantha Butterbaugh finished 53rd in a time of 19:36 and Marissa Sell finished 98th in a time of 20:46. Butterbaugh recorded her third sub 20-minute 5K mark of the season.
Megan O'Keefe, Ashley Lydic and Emily Marshall were the next Vikings to cross the finish line, O'Keefe in a time of 20:57, Lydic with a mark of 21:24, and Marshall with a personal-best 5K time of 21:39.
Also competing for Cleveland State at the Disney Cross Country Classic were Sarah Mallow (21:55), Kristin McCarthy (22:13) and Marissa Ward (23:10).
Up next for the Vikings will be the #JennaStrong Classic hosted by Wilmington College on Friday, October 16.
