Cross Country To Compete At Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team will continue the 2015 season this weekend, participating in the 29th Annual Running Fit-Detroit Titan Cross Country Invitational. The women's 5K race is slated for an 11:15 a.m. start on Saturday, September 12 at Cass Benton Park in Northville, Mich.

Last time out the Vikings had a strong showing at the BGSU Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener, led by sophomore Samantha Butterbaugh who was the first Viking to cross the finish line with a career-best 5K time of 19:05. Butterbaugh's time is tied for the ninth fastest 5K at Cleveland State – marking her second top-50 5K time.

Junior Ashlyn Woods also recorded a sub 20-minute 5K time for CSU last weekend, crossing the finish line in a time of 19:29 – her ninth top-50 5K time at Cleveland State.

ALL-TIME TOP PERFORMANCES

Other highlights from the first race of the 2015 season were sophomore Kristin McCarthy setting a personal-best with a 5K time of 22:39, and freshman Marissa Sell posting a time of 21:08 in her first collegiate race. 

2015 RACE-BY-RACE RESULTS

Cleveland State's top three finishers at the BGSU Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener combined for a time of 59:35 (Butterbaugh 19:05, Woods 19:29, Shamrock 21:01) – the fastest combined time of CSU's top three finishers in a season opening race since the 2010 season (59:07). It also marked the first time since the 2010 campaign that two runners notched sub 20-minute 5Ks in the first race of the season.
