Cross Country To Open 2015 At Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team will open the 2015 season this weekend, participating in the BGSU Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener on Friday, September 4. The women's 5K race is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Forest Creason Golf Course in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The 2015 Vikings are under the direction of 11-year head coach Joe Jaketic and return nine letterwinners from last season's squad. Included in the returners is Second Team All-Horizon League honoree Ashlyn Woods, who set Cleveland State 5K (18:35) and 6K (22:17) records last season as a sophomore.

Along with Woods, Cleveland State returns the senior duo of Ashley Lydic and Megan O'Keefe, the junior class of Sarah Mallow and Alanna Shamrock, and the sophomore quartet of Samantha Butterbaugh, Emily Marshall, Kristin McCarthy, and Marissa Ward.

Joining the nine returners for the 2015 season will be Victoria Bonca (North Olmsted, Ohio) and Marissa Sell (Painesville, Ohio), both of whom enter the year as freshmen. 

Last season, seven Vikings recorded 5K personal-best times, while six Vikings posted 6K career-best times. This group also notched eight top-50 CSU 5K performances and nine top-50 CSU 6K performances. For a complete list of the all-time top performances at Cleveland State click the link below:
