Two Vikings Earn Post-Season Volleyball Honors

Nov. 21, 2002

Cleveland State freshman Alisa Hatcher (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) has been selected the Horizon League's Co-Newcomer of the Year while sophomore Jamie Bouyer (Bedford Heights, Ohio/Chanel) has been named all-Horizon League, the league office announced today.

The league's head coaches voted for the teams and were not allowed to vote for their own players. For the first time in league history, the head coaches opted to select one squad with 12 members instead of picking first and second teams.

Hatcher, a 5-8 outside hitter who started every match for the Vikings, shares Newcomer of the Year honors with junior setter Meghan Keck from Illinois-Chicago, who transferred to the Flames' program this year from Auburn. An explosive player, Hatcher started every match during 2002 for the Vikings. The rookie averaged 2.53 kills, 2.49 digs and 0.28 service aces to help lead CSU to an 18-12 regular season record.

Bouyer, a 2001 all-newcomer team selection, ranked second in the league in hitting percentage at .326, fifth in blocks with 1.06 per game and sixth in kills with 3.52 per game. She closed out the regular season by recording double-digit kills in 11 of the last 13 matches, including a career-high 24 kills against UW-Milwaukee on Nov. 1.

Hatcher, Bouyer and the rest of the Vikings will be competing in the Horizon League Tournament this weekend at UW-Green Bay. CSU, the seventh seed, will face second-seeded UW-Milwaukee at 3 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 22 at the Phoenix Sports Center.
