CSU Volleyball Signs A Pair Of Players

Nov. 18, 2002

CLEVELAND - Midview's Cortney Gilbert and Kalida's Danielle Siefker have signed national letters-of-intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at Cleveland State University, CSU Head Volleyball Coach Chuck Voss recently announced.

Gilbert, a 5-9 outside hitter, helped lead Midview to a 23-1 record and an 11th-place ranking in the final 2002 Associated Press Division I volleyball poll. She was honorable mention all-Ohio, first-team all-district and all-Lorain County as well as the Lorain County Conference MVP. An honor roll student who plans to major in criminology, Gilbert is the daughter of James and Veronica Gilbert of Elyria, Ohio.

A 6-1 middle hitter, Siefker was named second-team all-Ohio Division IV as well as first-team all-District 8. She also was tabbed Putnam County League Player of the Year after leading the Lady Cats to a 21-4 mark and a district championship in 2002. Siefker holds Kalida records for kills in a match (23), season (304) and career (654) as well as in blocks in a season (99) and service aces in a match (6). Siefker, who plans to major in nursing, is the daughter of Roger and Mary Siefker and Cheryl Siefker of Kalida, Ohio.

Gilbert and Siefker will join a Viking squad that just completed the regular season at 18-12 under Voss, who is in his third season.
