CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State volleyball team was rewarded for its third 20-win season in the last four years as three players were named to the All-Horizon League first team, which was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Amy Benz, junior Jordan Goad and sophomore Kara Koch were all named to the squad, while freshman Jackie Dabbelt was voted to the all-newcomer team.

"I am happy for all four players who were honored by the league," head coach Chuck Voss said. "There is no doubt that each and every one of them has worked hard to earn these honors and it is nice to see the rest of the league take notice of their performances."

Benz, who is making her third appearance on the all-league first team (2007, 2008), ranks second in the Horizon League in hitting percentage (.318) and seventh in blocks (1.00). She is also averaging 2.52 kills per set.

Benz has her name throughout the CSU record book, ranking her name plastered throughout the CSU record book, ranking third in school history in blocks (525) and block assists (456), fourth in attack percentage (.315), seventh in solo blocks (69) and 10th in kills (1,125).

"Amy has been very consistent since she entered the program," Voss said. "We know exactly what we are going to get out of her everytime we take the court and she is very deserving of this honor."

Goad, who was also a first team selection last year, leads the Horizon League and ranks 64th in the nation in assists (10.46). She has handed out 3,376 assists in her career to rank fourth on the all-time list at CSU.

Goad, who notched her first career triple-double in a five-set win at Green Bay earlier this year, also averages 1.77 digs and 1.09 kills per set.

"Jordan has done a great job running our offense and keeping us within our system," Voss said. " She has worked hard all year long to develop connections with all of our hitters and directs our offense with a lot of ease."

Koch, who was named to the all-newcomer team last year, has developed into one of the top attackers in the league this year. She ranks second in the league in kills (3.87) and points (4.36), ranking 56th and 57th in the nation, respectively.

Koch, who leads the team with 10 double-doubles, is also second on the team with 2.49 digs per set.

"Kara has made a huge leap on the court this season," Voss said. "We needed people to step-up offensively because we lost so much from last year's team and Kara has been extremely effective on offense for us."

The Vikings finished the regular season with a 21-6 record and in third place in the Horizon League at 11-5.

The third-seeded Vikings open play in the Horizon League Championship on Friday (Nov. 19) with a 5:30 p.m. EST match against sixth-seeded UIC in Milwaukee's Klotsche Center.

A win would send CSU into the semifinals to face second-seeded Butler at 4:30 EST on Saturday (Nov. 20) with the championship slated for Sunday (Nov. 21) at 2:00 p.m. EST.
