CLEVELAND - Cleveland State freshman opposite Beth Greulich has been named the Horizon League Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week. The honor is the first of the Troy, Ohio native's career and she becomes the fifth Viking to earn the league's offensive or defensive weekly award. The league office made the announcement on Monday.

"Beth has been outstanding for us all season long, and last week was no different," CSU head coach Chuck Voss said. "For her to accomplish what she has as a freshman is very impressive -- not to mention the fact that she was replacing an All-American at her position. She's been very calm and even-keeled from day one."

Greulich improved on her league-leading hitting percentage by hitting .444 (34-6-63) in a pair of matches last week. On Friday (Nov. 3) against Wright State, she notched a career-high 19 kills on .378 hitting, adding a career-best seven blocks as well. The next day in a sweep of Butler, she hit .538, ripping 15 kills with just one error on 26 attacks, while tallying four blocks. For the week, Greulich averaged 4.25 kills and 1.38 blocks per game. She leads the Horizon League in overall (.371) and league-only (.318) hitting percentage after ranking among the top 20 in the nation for the first two months of the season.

Cleveland State (17-8, 7-6 HL) closes out the regular season against Youngstown State on Friday (Nov. 10) at 7:00 p.m. in Woodling Gymnasium. The Vikings can lock up at least the number four seed in the upcoming Horizon League Championship with a win over the Penguins. For ticket information, call (216) 687-4848.
