CSU Drops Tough-Fought Match to Wright State

Nov. 16, 2002

Cleveland - The Cleveland State volleyball team dropped a hard-fought battle to Wright State at Woodling Gym Saturday afternoon, 31-29, 33-31, 31-29, 30-20. The loss sends the Vikings to 18-12 (5-9 Horizon League) while the Raiders improve to 17-12 (6-8 HL).

The match was nip-and-tuck through the first three games, with neither team able to shake off the other until the final point. In the fourth game, however, the Raiders jumped ahead 3-0 and never relinquished the lead, taking the match in four games.

Service errors spelled the difference on the day, as Cleveland State committed 20 to Wright State's 10.

Sophomore Jamie Bouyer (Bedford Heights, Ohio/Chanel) paced the Vikings with 22 kills, while senior Michelle Iafigliola (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) put down 16.

Preceding the match, the three Viking seniors were honored for their exploits on the court during their careers. Iafigliola, Lori Betchker (Amherst, Ohio/Steele), and Kristine Dabbelt (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) were recognized at Cleveland State's final home match of the season.

Next up for the Vikings is the Horizon League Tournament on Nov. 21-23 in Green Bay, Wisc.
