CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State had its two-match win streak snapped with a 3-0 setback to Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon in Horizon League action in Woodling Gym.

It was the final regular season home match of the season for CSU and seniors Jordan Bateman, Alexis Korovich and Jenni Ramminger were honored in a pre-match ceremony in front of a school-record 982 fans as today's match was also CYO day at CSU.

"Senior Day is always an emotional day and to have CYO Day on the same day was really special," head coach Chuck Voss said. "We want to thank all the CYO teams for coming out to support us.

"I thought we played some of our best volleyball of the season today," Voss continued. "Valparaiso is a very good team and were able to get a couple more key points than us."

Ramminger led the Vikings with 12 kills, while Kayla Lefeld finished with nine kills and eight digs. Jordan Goad amassed 29 assists and seven digs, while Jordan Bateman had seven digs.

Angie Porche led the Crusaders with 14 kills and 13 digs, while Allison Sears tallied 10 kills. Kim Burkowski dished out 34 assists.

The first set had eight ties and three lead changes. CSU held a 22-20 lead after a Valpo service error, but the Crusaders came back with five of the final six points of the set to take a 1-0 lead.

The second set was even closer as there were 13 ties and seven lead changes. Neither team claimed a lead larger than two points until a Porche kill gave the Crusaders a 25-22 win in the set.

Valpo then got out of the gates quickly in the third set, claiming a 7-1 lead. However, the Vikings battled back to take a 10-9 lead on a Crusader service error. The Vikings still held a two-point lead (15-13) following a Benz Kill, but Valpo used a 5-0 run to take a 18-15 lead. The Crusaders would eventually push the lead to four points before a Jill Meyer kill gave then a 25-23 win.

Valpo wound up hitting .279 for the match, while the Vikings hit .226.

CSU will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 7, when the Vikings travel to Milwaukee for a 7:00 p.m. CDT match.
