Spiker Michelle Iafigliola Shines Despite CSU Loss To Kent State

KENT, Ohio - Junior Michelle Iafigliola (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) pounded down a career- and match-high 26 kills but Cleveland State dropped a five-game decision at Kent State Tuesday night at the M.A.C. Center.

CSU, 6-14 overall, won the first two games 30-24, 30-27 as the Vikings hit .361 and .293, respectively. However, the Vikes were relatively ineffective in the third game, hitting .081 compared to .196 for KSU (13-9), and the Golden Flashes State rallied for a 30-24 victory. In the fourth game, the Vikings led by as much as five, 27-22, before Kent State fought back and won 34-32. In the determining fifth game, Kent State took a 15-7 decision to capture the match.

Iafigliola, a 5-10 outside hitter, hit a respectable .275 while also contributing 18 digs, which tied KSU's Tarrin Pelton for match honors. In addition, freshman middle hitter Jamie Bouyer (Bedford Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) notched a career-high 19 digs. Bouyer, who ranks fourth in the Horizon League in hitting percentage, connected for 15 kills in 30 attempts with just three errors for a .400 efficiency.

Freshman setter Kelly Crain (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) added five service aces and 12 digs while sophomore Anne Yost (London, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) notched four aces as well as four block assists.

Five KSU players tallied double digit digs, led by Jennifer Dreyer with 16.
