Vikings Fall To Butler In Three Sets

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State volleyball team dropped just its second Horizon League contest of the season Saturday afternoon, as the Vikings fell to Butler in straight sets. During the first set of Saturday's contest Jordan Goad moved into second place on the all-time career assists list at CSU, as she now has 4,111 assists.

The Vikings are now 14-6 overall on the season and 7-2 in league play, while Butler improves to 10-12 overall and 6-4 in the league.

Set scores against the Bulldogs were 23-25, 14-25, 27-29.

The CSU offense was led by Kara Koch who tallied 16 kills, while Jackie Dabbelt added eight and Ally Beck posted a career-high seven. Amy Grabiec had a team-high 16 digs against the Bulldogs, with Goad chipping in seven and Koch adding six.

During the first set the Vikings battled back from a four-point deficit (23-19) and held off the Bulldogs on two set points before Butler was able to take the first frame, 25-23. Koch had a service ace and a kill during the final six points of the set, while Megan Barhorst also tallied a kill.

After dropping the second set, 25-14, the Vikings came out strong in the third frame getting out to a four point lead at 15-11. The two teams traded points throughout the remainder of the frame, with Butler eventually earning the 27-25 win on a kill and a CSU error. In the final 10 points of the frame, both Cleveland State and Butler held off two set points.

The Vikings will return to action on Tuesday, October 18 when CSU travels to Loyola for a 7:00 p.m. contest. The Vikings will return to Woodling Gym on Friday, October 21 when CSU hosts Youngstown State in a 7:00 p.m. match.
