CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State's Kayla Lefeld had her third straight double-double with a match-high 16 kills and 12 digs, but it was not enough as Milwaukee handed the Vikings a 3-1 setback in Horizon League volleyball action on Sunday afternoon at Woodling Gym.

Game scores were 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21.

CSU, which had its two-match win streak snapped, fell to 4-13 overall and 3-5 in the league, while Milwaukee is now 14-5 overall and maintained its first place position in the conference at 7-1.

"Milwaukee is a very good team and they came up with some big points when they needed them," head coach Chuck Voss said. "I thought we did a pretty good job on defense today, but we need to start swinging better at the net.

"We were able to get two wins on this homestand and now we have to go out and get some wins on the road."

The Panthers broke a 14-14 tie in the first set by scoring the next three points and would push the lead to 21-17. The Vikings were able to slice their deficit to one (23-22), but a CSU service error and kill by Milwaukee's Becky Peters gave the Panthers the set.

The Vikings took a 16-10 lead in set two on a Benz kill, but the Panthers responded and pulled to within 17-16. CSU forged back ahead by three points (22-19) on a Jordan Goad kill, but once again, the Panthers responded by scoring seven of the final eight points to take a 2-0 lead.

CSU evened things up with a win in the third set, breaking a 6-6 tie with seven straight points before eventually taking a 19-9 lead. The Panthers did make things interesting, cutting their deficit to 22-19, but CSU received back-to-back kills from Lefeld and another one from Greulich to slice its deficit to 2-1.

However, the Panthers came right back to win a close fourth set, which featured 11 ties and seven lead changes. The final tie came at 13-13, but Milwaukee would go on to score the next six points to take a 19-13 advantage. CSU was able to close to within three (22-19), but could get no closer.

Beth Greulich aided Lefeld with 15 kills, while three other Vikings had six kills each. Jordan Goad also had a double-double with 45 assists and 10 digs and Jordan Bateman and Maggie Bonomini had 19 digs each.

Milwaukee received 13 kills from Kerri Schuh, while Peters had a double-double effort of 11 kills and 13 digs. Kellye Zaporski handed out 42 assists, while Lauren Felsing finished with a match-best 28 digs.

CSU will return to action on Friday night when the Vikings begin a two-match roadswing through Chicago with an 8:00 p.m. EDT match at UIC.
