CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State volleyball team dominated play at the net en route to a 30-15, 30-21, 30-27 sweep of Illinois-Chicago Saturday afternoon in Woodling Gymnasium. The Vikings recorded 15 blocks and limited the Flames to just a .054 hitting percentage for the match. Despite trailing in the all-times series 34-8, CSU has swept UIC each of the past two years in Cleveland.

"I thought our blocking was the difference in the match," noted CSU head coach Chuck Voss. "After a tough match last night, I was happy with how we came out in the first game. I thought we let down a little after that, but we still found a way to win."

Junior middle hitter Jamie Bouyer (Bedford Heights, Ohio/Chanel) hit .500 with 15 kills and a career-high 11 blocks to lead Cleveland State. Bouyer now has 979 career kills, leaving her just 21 shy of becoming the eighth Viking to record 1,000 career kills. Junior setter Kelly Crain (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) hit .615 (9-1-13) with 30 assists and six digs, while sophomore outside hitter Alisa Hatcher (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) equaled her career-high with 16 digs.

Senior outside hitter Teaha Shepperd paced the Flames with 14 kills and nine digs.

Cleveland State is in action again on Tuesday, Oct. 7 when the Vikings host Robert Morris at 7:00 p.m.
