CLEVELAND, Ohio - Kara Koch had 12 kills and Jackie Dabbelt had 11 as Cleveland State won for the 11th time in 12 matches this year with a 3-0 sweep of Youngstown State on Friday night in Woodling Gym.

The Vikings improved to 12-1 overall and 3-1 in league play, while YSU fell to 2-15 overall and 0-4 in the Horizon League.

"We started an important stretch of five matches in the next week so this was an important win for us," head coach Chuck Voss said. "I thought we got off to a great start in the first set and were able to carry that over to get the win."

Kara Koch led CSU with 12 kills, while Jackie Dabbelt had 11. Annie Djukic finished with 31 assists and nine digs, while Amy Grabiec made a match-best 21 digs.

CSU scored the first five points of the first set en route to storming out to a 9-1 lead on a Dabbelt kill. The lead would swell to as many as 10 points as the Vikings took a 1-0 lead.

YSU gained a 12-9 lead in the second set, but a 9-6 run by the Vikings enabled them to take an 18-15 lead on a Penguin attack error. CSU would not trail the rest of the way.

The third set was much of the same with YSU scoring the first three points of the set. The Penguins led all the way until a YSU attack error gave the Vikings a 20-19 lead. A Lindsey Griffith kill and another Penguin error extended the lead to 22-19.

CSU hit .234 for the match, holding YSU to .095.

The Vikings will be back in action on Tuesday (Oct.5) when CSU hosts Butler at 5:00 p.m. in Woodling Gym.
