CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State volleyball team dropped their first Horizon League contest of the season Friday night, as the Vikings fell to Milwaukee, 3-0. With the loss the Vikings are now 10-5 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the Panthers improve to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in the Horizon League.

Set scores against the Panthers were 23-25, 20-25, 20-25.

"Milwaukee played very well tonight, and to beat a team like that you need to have all of your parts clicking and we didn't," head coach Chuck Voss said. "Some players played very well tonight, but as a whole we only had an average game. Going forward we need to work on having all aspects of our offense and defense working together."

The Vikings dropped a tough first set, 25-23 after battling back the entire first half of the frame. Milwaukee held a 19-15 lead, but Jackie Dabbelt sparked a CSU rally with a kill from Jordan Goad to bring the score to 19-16. The Vikings eventually tied the set at 20-20 after forcing two Panther errors. CSU and Milwaukee traded points for the rest of the set until the panthers were able to take the set on a kill from Kerri Schuh.

Both teams traded points throughout the beginning of the second frame until Milwaukee was able to take a 23-18 lead with three straight points. The Panthers were able to put the set away with their 16th kill of the set.

The third set was much of the same, as CSU and Milwaukee traded points up until the frame was tied at 18-18. The Panthers rattled off six straight points to gain a 24-18 advantage and were able to take the set, 25-20.

Megan Barhorst led the Vikings with 10 kills, while Marie Frease added seven and Kara Koch added six. Amy Grabiec and Koch led the CSU defense, Grabiec posting 11 digs and Koch recording 10.

Frease had a team-high four block assists, while Goad added three block assists and Barhosrt tallied two block assists and one block solo.

The Vikings return to action on Tuesday, October 4 when they travel to Green Bay for an 8:00p.m. EST Horizon League match-up.
