Vikings Captures Medical Mutual CSU Volleyball Invitational

CLEVELAND - Led by senior Michelle Iafigliola's (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) match-high 23 kills, Cleveland State captured the 2002 Medical Mutual CSU Volleyball Invitational by beating Marshall 30-26, 30-25, 24-30, 30-25 Saturday night at Woodling Gymnasium.

The Thundering Herd and the Vikings both entered the tournament's final match with 3-0 marks. CSU, a winner of five in a row, improves to 7-3 overall. Marshall falls to 6-4.

Iafigliola, who named the tournament's MVP, also contributed by hitting .380 and adding five blocks and 18 digs. Senior middle hitter Kristine Dabbelt (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia), who was named to the all-tournament team, equalled a career-high with six blocks.

In addition, sophomore middle hitter Jamie Bouyer (Bedford Heights, Ohio/Chanel) recorded 16 kills while hitting .353 and added five blocks.

For the Thundering Herd, outside hitter Tracey King led four Marshall players in double digit kills with 16.

Cleveland State hit a respectable .259 (64K-20E-170TA) for the match while limited Marshall to .155 (58K-31E-174TA).

The Vikings continue their non-conference schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 17 when they travel to Oakland University for a 7 p.m. match. CSU will be looking to match the school's longest winning streak since 1992 when the Vikes won six in a row.
