Cleveland State Volleyball Returns Home To Pick Up Sweep Over IUPUI

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State volleyball team returned home to begin its final homestand of the regular season Tuesday, picking up a 3-0 sweep over IUPUI. With the win, the Vikings now stand at 14-9 overall this season and 8-4 in #HLVB play.

Nia Hall led the Viking offense with 11 kills on a .318 hitting percentage, while Laken Voss added eight.

Emma Walker tallied a team-best nine digs, while Madalynn Butler added six.

Ainslie McLaughlin recorded four total blocks on the match, with Madison Olinger adding three.

The Vikings were able to gain an early lead during the opening set, gaining a 12-7 lead following a run of three straight points that ended with a Lesley Marshall service ace. Cleveland State then held the advantage for the remainder of the frame, including extending its lead to 21-13 on an IUPUI error, before closing out the 25-16 first set with another Jaguar miscue.

The second set was much of the same, as the Vikings were able to hold the advantage for the majority of the frame, including gaining an 18-14 lead after forcing a pair of IUPUI errors. A pair of Laken Voss kills then extended the lead to 20-14, before Cleveland State forced IUPUI into a string of errors to claim the matching 25-16 second set victory.

During the third set, the Vikings had to battle back from an early deficit, finally gaining control of the frame at the 19-16 mark on a Nia Hall kill. Cleveland State then held the advantage throughout the remainder of the frame, closing out the 25-21 third set victory with a kill from Ainslie McLaughlin.

The Vikings will continue their homestand on Friday, October 27, hosting Wright State at 6:00 p.m.
