Cleveland State Volleyball Continues #HLVB Play With Trio Of Matches

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team will continue Horizon League play with another busy week of matches, as the Vikings are set for a trio of #HLVB contests for the second straight week. Cleveland State will host Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday, September 26, before traveling to Northern Kentucky (Friday, September 29) and Wright State (Saturday, September 30) to close out the week. 

Entering Tuesday's match, the Vikings stand at 8-6 overall this season and 2-1 in #HLVB play to sit fourth in the league standings. 

Last week, Cleveland State opened its Horizon League slate with a 3-0 sweep at IUPUI, before splitting its matches against RMU and Youngstown State. 

The 3-0 victory at IUPUI marked the 400th win for head coach Chuck Voss at Cleveland State, giving him an overall record of 401-285 during 24 seasons as a Viking. 

Among Horizon League teams, Cleveland State leads the league averaging 2.67 blocks per set, while the Vikings are tied for eighth nationally with 147.0 total team blocks this season. Cleveland State has tallied double-digit team blocks in six matches so far this year, including 10.0 total blocks against RMU last weekend. 

In addition, the Vikings rank second averaging 16.20 digs per set, making Cleveland State one of the best defensive teams in the league. 

Individually, Karly Klaer ranks second among league players averaging 8.62 assists per set, while she also ranks 10th with 159 total digs. So far this season, Klaer has notched a team-best nine double-doubles, with two coming in #HLVB play (IUPUI, RMU).  

Emma Walker, Cleveland State's libero for the 2023 campaign, ranks third among league players with 4.98 digs per set. Entering Tuesday's match, Walker has posted 25+ digs in five of the last six contests, including a trio of 30-dig performances against Bucknell, Kent State and Akron. 

Tuesday's match against Purdue Fort Wayne will be the final home contest during September, with the Vikings set for a stretch of three straight road contests.
