Voss Records 400th Win At CSU As Vikings Earn 3-0 Victory At IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Cleveland State volleyball team opened Horizon League play Tuesday evening, picking up a 3-0 victory at IUPUI. With the win, head coach Chuck Voss recorded his 400th victory at Cleveland State.

Laken Voss led the Viking offense with 10 kills, while Liberty Torres added seven kills and JeriLynn Koehler chipped in five.

Karly Klaer posted 23 assists on the day along with 12 digs, marking her eighth double-double of the season.

The Vikings combined for five service aces on the match, including two from Emma Walker and Voss.

The Vikings were able to control play from the start, gaining a 15-8 lead midway through the first set on a Laken Voss kill and service ace. Cleveland State was then able to gain a 22-13 advantage on a Nia Hall kill, before another Voss kill followed by a service ace gave the Vikings set point at 24-15. Cleveland State then put the frame away after forcing an IUPUI error, earning the 25-16 second set victory.

The second set was much of the same, as the Vikings gained a sizable lead midway through at the 15-6 mark, following a trio of kills from Liberty Torres and JeriLynn Koehler. Cleveland State then held off a late IUPUI run, posting three straight points to gain a 23-16 edge on back-to-back IUPUI errors. The Vikings then closed out the 25-18 second set victory with another pair of Jaguar errors.

The third set was much tighter until the Vikings rattled off six straight points midway through the frame, gaining a 21-12 lead on a Koehler kill and Koehler and Hall block. Despite gaining a nine-point advantage, the Vikings once again had to fend off a late Jaguar run, gaining set point on another Koehler kill, before finally putting the set away on a Torres kill.

Cleveland State will continue #HLVB play at home this weekend, beginning with a 6:00 p.m. contest against Robert Morris on Friday, September 22.
