Cleveland State Volleyball Drops First #HLVB Match Against Green Bay

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team dropped its first Horizon League match of the season Thursday evening, falling in five sets to Green Bay. After Thursday's match, the Vikings now sit at 6-10 overall and 4-1 in #HLVB action.

Peyton Bloomer led the Viking offense with 16 kills on the match, while London Portis added 15 kills.

Abby Miller recorded 42 assists against the Phoenix, marking her third 40-assist match of the season, along with 16 digs for her fifth double-double this year.

Audrey McConihe tallied a team-high 22 digs, while Emma Walker posted a season-high 16 digs on the match.

Chelsea Penfield recorded a team-high four total blocks, while Madalynn Butler posted three and Ainslie McLaughlin added two.

The Vikings were able to gain the early momentum in the contest, as Cleveland State picked up a 25-21 first set victory and a 25-20 second set victory, but Green Bay responded by winning the next two frames to force and fifth and deciding set.

During the fifth set the two teams traded points throughout the opening part of the frame, until a 4-0 run from Green Bay put the Phoenix up 10-5. Green Bay was then able to control play throughout the rest of the set then, closing out the five-set victory with a 15-9 fifth frame victory.

With the first #HLVB loss of the season, Cleveland State falls to third place in the league standings, and will face league-leading Milwaukee (11-6, 5-0) tomorrow (Friday, October 8), with first serve set for 6:00 p.m. from Woodling Gymnasium.
