Vikings Extend Winstreak With 3-0 Victory At Wright State

FAIRBORN, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team wrapped up the first half of its Horizon League schedule Friday evening, picking up a 3-0 sweep at Wright State. With the victory, the Vikings improve to 16-4 overall this season and 7-1 against league opponents.

Match Stats
· Grace Kauth and Sara Skeens led the Viking offense with 12 kills each, while Sydney Mast added nine kills.
· Gina Kilner tallied 39 assists on the night.
· Shannon Grega posted a team-best 16 digs, while Gina Kilner and Jordan Verbiak added eight, and Grace Kauth notched seven.
· Alexis Middlebrooks, Aaliyah Slappy, Grace Kauth, and Gina Kilner each finished with one block.
· As a team, Cleveland State posted a .393 hitting percentage, led by Sydney Mast who tallied a .533 clip (9-1-15).

Match Notes
· Cleveland State finished the first half of league play sitting at the top of the league standings with a 7-1 record.
· Friday's 3-0 victory over Wright State marked the seventh sweep for the Vikings this year, and the third straight.
· The Vikings kept their record perfect on the road in league play, as they now own a 4-0 record when playing away from home during the league slate.
· Cleveland State extended its winstreak to seven straight matches – marking the eighth time under head coach Chuck Voss that the Vikings have been able to record a 7+ match winstreak.
· Friday's win kept Cleveland State perfect during the month of October, as the Vikings own a 5-0 record since the start of the month.

The Match
During the opening set, Cleveland State had to come back from an early deficit, gaining a 14-11 advantage following a Grace Kauth kill, and then went on an 11-4 run to close out the set, capturing the 25-15 victory after three straight kills from Sara Skeens, Aaliyah Slappy, and Sydney Mast.

The second set was much of the same, as both teams traded points early on, before Cleveland State was able to distance itself at the 17-10 mark following a pair of kills from Mast and Kauth. The Vikings then controlled play throughout the remainder of the frame, closing out the set on a Skeens kill for the 25-18 second set victory.

During the third frame, the two teams were once again knotted throughout the first part of the set, until a string of kills from Alexis Middlebrooks and Kauth gave Cleveland State a 17-12 lead. From here, the Vikings carried the momentum, closing out the frame and the match with five consecutive points, capped off by a Slappy kill to capture the 3-0 sweep over the Raiders.
