Vikings Sweep UIC; Improve To 14-4 Overall

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team picked up its fifth straight victory Saturday afternoon, picking up a 3-0 sweep of UIC on Alumni Day. With the win, the Vikings improve to 14-4 overall this season and 5-1 in league action.

Match Stats
· Grace Kauth led the Viking offense with 13 kills, while Alexis Middlebrooks added 11 kills.
· Sydney Mast added to the offensive attack with nine kills on a .412 hitting percentage, while Trinniti Hall added eight kills.
· Gina Kilner notched 40 assists on the match along with a team-high 14 digs.
· Shannon Grega tallied 13 digs and seven assists.
· Alexis Middlebrooks recorded three total blocks, including two solo blocks.

Match Notes
· Cleveland State matched its season-best winstreak with Saturday's victory, ending the contest on a five-match winstreak.
· After posting eight digs against the Flames, Grace Kauth earned a spot in the top-10 list in the CSU Career Record book, ending the match ranked ninth with 1,105 career digs. Kauth is just the third Viking all-time to rank in the top-10 in career kills and career digs.
· Freshman Trinniti Hall set a season-high in kills with her eight-kill performance against the Flames.

The Match
During the opening set, both teams battled back-and-forth throughout the first part of the frame, until Cleveland State was able to go on a 5-1 run to gain a 19-14 advantage following an Aaliyah Slappy kill. The Vikings were able to hold the lead for the rest of the set then, closing out the frame on an Alexis Middlebrooks kill.

The second set was much of the same, as neither team was able to gain a sizeable lead until the end of the frame when Cleveland State posted four straight points to gain a 23-19 advantage following a pair of Trinniti Hall kills and a pair of Sydney Mast kills. The Vikings then fended off a UIC run over the next few points, finally closing out the frame with a Grace Kauth kill for the 25-22 set victory.

The Vikings then came out firing during the third set, going on a 9-2 run to open the frame. Cleveland State was then able to hold a large lead for the remainder of the set, and earned the three-set victory over the Flames on a Mariah Carerro-Johnson kill.
