Vikings Drop Tough Battle Against Youngstown State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team wrapped up the first half of Horizon League play Friday evening, dropping a hard-fought four-set match to the Youngstown State Penguins. The Vikings now stand at 10-10 overall and 3-4 in Horizon League play.

Set scores against Youngstown State were 24-26, 25-22, 26-24, 25-15.

The Viking offense had three players with double-digit kills against YSU, led by Grace Kauth who tallied 15 – her second 15-kill match of the season. Christina Toth added 11 kills, while Ally Beck posted 10 kills. Beck recorded her third double-double of the season, notching a team-high 17 digs along with her 10 kills.

Gina Kilner bettered her career-high assist mark that she set last week, recording 49 helpers on Cleveland State's 54 kills against the Penguins.

Along with Beck, Shannon Grega led the Viking defense, as she notched 13 digs serving as CSU's libero. The Vikings recorded eight total team blocks on the night, with Aaliyah Slappy, Maggie Hannon, and Toth all recorded three blocks each.

The Vikings will begin their second trip through the Horizon League next weekend, traveling to Oakland (Friday, Oct. 24) and Wright State (Saturday, Oct. 25).
