Vikings Fall To Penn & Colgate On Final Day Of Penn Invite

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Cleveland State volleyball team wrapped up play at the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia West Invitational Saturday, falling to Penn and Colgate by matching 3-0 scores. The Vikings finished the weekend with a 1-2 record, and now stand at 3-4 overall.

Senior Maggie Hannon was named to the All-Tournament Team, after leading the Vikings with 27 kills and a .314 hitting percentage. Hannon recorded back-to-back 10-kill performances against Georgetown and Penn, while also posting a weekend-high .450 hitting percentage against Penn.

PENN BOX SCORE

Set scores against Penn were 25-15, 25-23, 25-21.

Along with Hannon's 10-kill effort, Ally Beck led the Viking offense against Penn, posting seven kills. Alexis Middlebrooks had a great individual performance in CSU's first match of the day, recording four kills and seven blocks. Nikki Holmes led the Viking defense with 18 digs, while Gina Kilner and Dayna Roberts combined for 31 assists.

COLGATE BOX SCORE

Set scores against Colgate were 25-23, 25-18, 25-19.

Ally Beck and Dayna Roberts led the Vikings against Colgate, each posting double-doubles. Beck tallied 11 kills and 10 digs, while Roberts notched 10 assists and 13 digs.

Maggie Hannon added seven kills against the Raiders, while Grace Kauth tallied six. Gina Kilner had a team-high 19 assists, while Christina Toth and Alexis Middlebrooks both posted four blocks.

The Vikings will return home next weekend, hosting the annual CSU Invitational. This year's participants include Navy, Dayton, and Toledo. CSU's first match of the weekend will be against Navy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12.
