CSU Earns 3-0 Victory Over Youngstown State
Behind a balanced offensive effort and a .381 team hitting percentage, the Cleveland State volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over Youngstown State Friday evening. With the win, the Vikings improve to 16-6 overall and 9-2 in the Horizon League.

QUICK SETS
Cleveland State (13-6, 5-1) will close out its three-match road swing this weekend, traveling to Youngstown State for a Friday (Oct. 12) night contest. The Vikings will take on the Penguins at 7:00 p.m. in the Beeghly Center. CSU enters Friday's contest on a three-match win streak, and has won five out of its last six matches dating back to the beginning of league play. The Vikings are tied at the top of the league standings with a 5-1 mark, while the Penguins stand at 2-4 and in sixth place.

THE OPPONENT
YOUNGSTOWN STATE enters the week with a 12-8 record and a 2-4 mark in league play, most recently defeating Wright State and falling to Valparaiso. The Penguins got off to a strong start, winning eight of their first 10 matches, surpassing their win total from last season after the first three weeks of play. As a team, Youngstown State leads the league in blocks, averaging 2.23 per set, while YSU's Jenna Cavanaugh leads the individual category with 1.31 blocks per set this year.

CSU VS. THE PENGUINS
Cleveland State leads the overall series with the Penguins, standing at 50-13 following the 2011 season. Entering Friday's contest, the Vikings have won 23 straight matches against Youngstown State, dating back to the 2001 season.

VIKINGS PICK UP OFFENSE AGAINST VALPARAISO
Cleveland State tied its season-best with 71 kills against Valparaiso last weekend, marking just the third time this season that the Vikings have tallied 70 or more kills in a match (70 at EMU, 71 at Valparaiso, 71 vs. Oakland). CSU leads the league in both hitting percentage (.247) and kills per set (14.35), while the 71 kills against Valparaiso and Oakland are the third best match totals among the league teams.

...AND NOT SHORT ON THE DEFENSIVE END AGAINST THE CRUSADERS
Not only were the Vikings sharp on offense at Valparaiso, they were also sharp defensively. As a team, Cleveland State posted 102 digs against the Crusaders, with five players recording double-digit dig performances. Last Friday's contest marked the third time this season that the Vikings have notched at least 100 digs, also doing so at Eastern Michigan (104) and vs. Oakland (114).

CHASING THE RECORDS
Entering the fourth week of league play, three Vikings are in the top-10 on CSU career record lists, including senior Kara Kochwho ranks in five categories. Koch ranks in the top-10 in Kills Per Set (2nd-3.71), Attack Attempts (2nd-3,898), Kills (3rd-1,413), Points Per Set (2nd-4.13) and Total Points (4th-1,575). Senior Marie Frease (3rd-.317) and junior Jackie Dabbelt (7th-.291) both rank in the top-10 in Hitting Percentage.

FREASE CRACKS TOP-100 LIST
For the second straight week, Marie Frease ranks in the top-100 nationally in hitting percentage, ranking 80th this week with a .345 clip. After ranking in the top-200 for the first part of the season, Frease was finally able to crack the top-100 last week. She has posted double-digit kills in eight of the last 11 contests, and ranks second at CSU with 194 total kills this season.

FREASE AND KOCH CONTINUE TO HOLD TOP MARKS IN HORIZON LEAGUE
Marie Frease and Kara Koch each continue to lead individual stat categories in the Horizon League entering the eighth weekend of play, Frease with a hitting percentage of .345 and Koch with 4.88 kills per set. On the season, Frease has recorded 194 kills on 438 attempts with just 43 errors, while Koch has posted 337 kills in 69 sets played.

KOCH RANKED NATIONALLY
Entering the week Kara Koch ranks fourth in the Nation in kills per set, averaging 4.88. Koch, who has 337 total kills on the year, trails only Edina Begic of UALR (5.41), Tyler Henderson of Tulsa (5.22) and Lola Arslanbekova of Louisville (4.94). Koch is one of just two Horizon League players to rank in the top-25, joined by Anna Eytchison of Loyola who ranks 15th (4.48 kills per set).

KOCH MOVES UP CAREER KILLS LIST
Following a 38-kill weekend, Kara Koch became just the third Viking all-time to notch 1,400 kills on their career, entering the week with 1,413. Koch is now just four kills shy of moving into second place on the CSU career record list, which is currently held by Tenille Whiteside (1993-96) who recorded 1,416 kills. On the season, Koch has 337 kills, marking the third straight season that she has posted 300 or more kills.

VIKINGS NOTCH PROGRAM WIN #700
With the 3-0 victory over UIC (9/29) earlier this season, the Cleveland State volleyball team marked its 700th win in program history. To date, CSU has tallied 702 wins with 224 of them coming under head coach Chuck Voss' guidance. Cleveland State is the third Horizon League team to reach the 700-win mark, joining Milwaukee (996 wins) and Wright State (762).

VIKINGS PICK UP FOUR HORIZON LEAGUE WEEKLY AWARDS
Cleveland State has earned four weekly honors from the Horizon League so far this season, making the Vikings the only team with four weekly awards. 2012 Honorees: Kara Koch (Offensive POW-9/4 & 9/24), Marie Frease (Offensive POW-9/10) & Amanda Medvetz (Defensive POW-9/10).

UP NEXT
The Vikings will finally return home next weekend, hosting Milwaukee and Green Bay in a pair of league contests. CSU will host Milwaukee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 19), and Green Bay at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 20).
