INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After capturing the 2012 Horizon League regular season title, the Cleveland State volleyball team picked up multiple awards from the league Monday (Nov. 12) afternoon, including Kara Koch earning Player of the Year honors. Along with Koch, Marie Frease and Amanda Medvetz were named to the All-League Team, while Dayna Roberts earned a spot on the All-Newcomer Team and Chuck Voss was named Coach of the Year.

Koch earns a spot on the All-League Team for the third time in her career, and becomes the third Viking to earn Player of the Year honors in program history. She has re-written the CSU record book throughout the season, currently ranking second all-time in kills (1,533), kills per set (3.73), total points (1,704.5) and points per set (4.15), while she has posted a Cleveland State record 4,225 attack attempts.

Koch has led the league throughout the season in kills per set, currently averaging 4.71 which also ranks fifth nationally. She is the only league player to rank in the top-10 in kills per set and digs per set (10th-3.31), and became the fifth Viking to post 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs on their career earlier this season. Koch owns four of the top-10 single-match kill performances in the league this year, including the top mark of 31 against Eastern Michigan.

Frease and Medvetz joined Koch on the All-League Team, marking the fifth time that CSU has had three players on the All-League Team (2005, 2007, 2009, 2010). Frease leads the league with a .354 hitting percentage, posting 268 kills on 594 attempts with just 58 errors. Frease also has a team-high 90 blocks this year, ranking seventh in the league averaging 0.93 blocks per set.

Medvetz has been the anchor of the Viking defense this season, posting 453 digs as the CSU libero. She ranks sixth in the league averaging 4.67 digs per set, and recorded a career-high 34 against UIC earlier this season which is the fifth-best single-match total in the league this year.

Roberts, a redshirt freshman, has served as CSU's setter throughout the league schedule, averaging 11.63 assists per set (ranks 2nd in league matches only). During league play she has led the Vikings to a .278 hitting percentage, which is tops in the league. So far this season Roberts has tallied 613 assists, 264 digs, 45 kills and 30 blocks, and has posted six double-doubles.

Voss, who picks up his third Horizon League Coach of the Year accolade (2009, 2005), has led the Vikings to a 21-6 record this season, including a 13-1 mark in league play. CSU has posted four 20-win seasons under Voss, and has captured two Horizon League regular season titles (2009, 2012). In 2007 Voss guided the Vikings to the league tournament title, earning the program's first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Vikings will begin play in the 2012 Horizon League Tournament this Saturday (Nov. 17), playing the lowest remaining seed in a semifinal contest at 4:00 p.m. Two first round matches will be played on Friday (Nov. 16); No. 4 Loyola vs. No. 5 Green Bay and No. 3 Valparaiso vs. No. 6 Youngstown State.
