Vikings Have Strong Second Day At #HLTF Championship

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Cleveland State track and field team had a strong performance on the second day of the 2019 Horizon League Outdoor Championship Saturday, as multiple Vikings advanced to Sunday's final events. After two days of the #HLTF Championships, the Vikings sit seventh with 15 points.

Heptathlon
Hannah Gaskins finished fourth overall in the Heptathlon, posting a program record 4405 total points. On the second day of competition, Gaskins recorded her best finish in the 800 Meter Run, where she placed second with a time of 2:29.80.

Julianne Dorothal placed eighth in the Heptathlon, finishing with a personal-best point total of 4018. Dorothal won the Javelin event on Saturday, recording a program-best mark of 37.25.

Sprints
Tylar Mixon led the Vikings in the sprint events on Saturday, advancing to the finals in the 100 and 200 Meter Dash events. Mixon finished sixth in the 100 Meter Dash prelims after posting a time of 12.29, while she placed fifth in the 200 Meter Dash prelims with a time of 24.87. Mixon's time in the 200 marked a Cleveland State record, while her time in the 100 was the second fastest time in program history.

Monica Johnson recorded the fastest time in the 100 Meter Hurdle prelims on Saturday, posting a program record time of 14.53 to advance to Sunday's final. Mijah Collier also earned a spot in the 100 Meter Hurdle finals after placing eighth in the prelims with a time of 15.19.

Collier also earned a spot in the 400 Meter Hurdle final, posting a time of 1:07.64 to finish eighth in the prelims.

The Vikings were also represented in the 400 Meter Dash, with Anna Brandt pacing the Vikings with a 12th place finish (1:00.08).

Field
Hannah Gaskins recorded Cleveland State's best finish in the field events on Saturday, placing seventh in the High Jump with a mark of 1.63, which ties the program record. Gaskins also recorded an 11th place finish in the Long Jump, posting a mark of 4.95.

Distance
Four Vikings competed in the 800 Meter Run prelims, paced by Deja Emmanus who finished 14th overall with a time of 2:20.74. Lily Michael represented Cleveland State in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, recording a 16th place finish with a time of 12:23.68.

Cleveland State will wrap up action at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships tomorrow (Sunday, May 5), with field events beginning at 10:00 a.m. and running events starting at 11:00 a.m.
