CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State women's tennis team, fresh off its first win of the season on Saturday, Sept. 20, will try for their first league win of the year when UW-Green Bay visits the Malaga Tennis Center on Sunday, Sept. 28. The Horizon League matchup is set to begin at 10 a.m.

About the Viking Women
The Vikings (1-0) opened the season on Saturday, Sept. 20, with a 6-1 non-league victory over St. Francis. CSU avenged a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Red Flash last season. All six Vikings got in on the scoring, as CSU swept the doubles point and took five of six singles matches.

Head Coach Brian Etzkin
In his second season as head coach of the Viking tennis program, Brian Etzkin has compiled a combined record of 12-43 (9-19 men, 3-24 women). Etzkin has been been given the task reviving the men's tennis program, which returned in 2000 after an eight-year hiatus. Prior to his arrival at Cleveland State, Etzkin spent two years as an assistant at Western Illinois before being named an assistant coach at Michigan State.

Fast Start
The women's team at CSU has gotten off to a strong start in 2003. The Vikings are already half way to equaling their win total from last season, when they went just 2-24.

New Faces, New Results
The Vikings have gotten a big lift from several new faces in 2003, and have seen an improved record as a result. Freshmen Sarah Galon (Wahiawi, Hawaii/Leillehua) and Marcie Capoziello (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) each won a pair of matches against St. Francis, while Galon teamed with fellow freshman Morgan Ungerott (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) for a win at No. 1 doubles. On the men's team, Brett Aronson (Ashtabula, Ohio/Lakeside) went 3-0 in singles play at the St. Bonaventure Invitational on Sept. 12-14, while Chris Whitten (Chardon, Ohio) teamed with Aronson to go 2-1 in doubles the same weekend.

Men's Tennis Shows Well At SBU
The men's tennis team opened the 2003-04 season at the St. Bonaventure Invitational on Sept. 12-14, and came away with several strong finishes. Brett Aronson (Ashtabula, Ohio/Lakeside) opened his Cleveland State career with a perfect 3-0 mark in singles, and finished the weekend 2-1 in doubles with teammate Chris Whitten (Chardon, Ohio). Jay Tee (Davenport, Iowa/Central), last season's Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, went unbeaten in doubles play at No. 1 doubles to lead all Vikings. On the weekend, every member of the Viking roster picked up at least one singles win, as CSU finished 9-9 in singles matches and 5-4 in doubles play.

Up Next
