BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team had a busy day on Saturday, with each player playing two singles matches and a doubles match at the Bowling Green Invitational. The Vikings took two of three doubles matches and won four of 12 singles matches on the day.

Seniors Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott continued their hot start to the season in doubles play, winning 8-4 over the No. 1 doubles team from Bowling Green. Galon and Ungerott are now 4-0 this season in No. 1 doubles play.

In the second combo spot, sophomore Kristin Chamberlain and freshman Charlotte Gibbons lost, 8-2, but junior Christine Vogelgesang and freshman Denisa Muntean scored a victory, 8-6 at the No. 3 doubles spot.

"I thought we played really good doubles today," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Our top doubles team is undefeated and in the main draw and our No. 3 team played its best tennis ever. We worked on doubles play this week and I'm happy that it showed."

Galon, 3-0 after last weekend's tournament at Bradley, split her two solo matches, winning 7-5, 6-3 over Kate Mellion of Dayton, and then falling, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 to Bowling Green's Ashley Jacubincin.  Galon will play for third place on Sunday.

In the No. 2 spot, Muntean dropped two matches, both by the score of 6-4, 6-1. Ungerott, playing up in the lineup for this tournament due to a few Vikings out with injuries, split. Ungerott lost her first match, 6-2, 6-3 to Kelsey Jacupsin of Bowling Green but defeated Youngstown State's Michelle Fuleky, 5-7, 6-1, 7-5.

Gibbons split her two matches at the No. 4 spot, highlighted by a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Dayton's Carrie Trigilio. Vogelgesang dropped two in the No. 5 spot, losing 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3. Chamberlain captured her first match, 6-3, 6-3, over UIC's Jenna Reisch before losing to Stefanie Menoff of Bowling Green, 6-1, 6-0.

"We won two of three matches against Horizon League teams, so that is always nice," Etzkin said. "The season is still young, but we have faired very well in important matches."

Chamberlain will play for third place on Sunday in the No. 6 singles flight, Ungerott and Gibbons will compete for fifth and Muntean and Vogelgesang will try for seventh place finishes in their respective singles flights.
